From the NFL to Leadership: A Career of Grit & Determination

Eric Hipple spent ten seasons as quarterback for the Detroit Lions, where he led the team to two playoff appearances and a divisional championship. A Utah State Hall of Famer, he was drafted in the 4th round of the 1980 NFL Draft, throwing for 6,073 yards and 34 touchdowns in college. His MVP-winning 1981 season cemented his legacy as a leader on and off the field.

Following his retirement, Eric transitioned to broadcasting, serving as a FOX NFL pregame color analyst in Detroit from 1995 to 2000, bringing his deep understanding of the game to audiences across the region.

Turning Tragedy into Purpose: A Mission for Mental Health

In 2000, Eric Hipple faced an unimaginable loss—his 15-year-old son, Jeff, died by suicide. This devastating event changed his life’s direction, leading him to advocate for mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and resilience-building.

Since then, Eric has dedicated himself to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the University of Michigan Neubacher Award, the Detroit Lions Courage House Award, and the Life Saver Achievement Award from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
